The Petroleum Industrial Bill which has been in the making since 2008 is unarguably the most talked about piece of legislation in Nigeria given the far reaching reforms it proposes to the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry. In spite of that, there are some who argue that the problem of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry will not be cured by the PIB; and that the we have more than enough laws to address the problem of the Oil and Gas industry if effectively deployed by Government. Some see the recent “re-organisation” of NNPC just announced by the 2-in-1 Minister Dr. Ibe Kachikwu as the first step towards the eventual death of the PIB.
And the question to ask is: Do we really need the PIB?
